Independent Contractor - Commission Only - Flexible Schedule

Community Solar Enrollment Specialist

PNM and Xcel Energy Service Areas - New Mexico

WattsUp New Mexico is building a local team to help New Mexico households understand and join the state Community Solar Program.

Successful Enrollment Specialists create opportunities through neighborhood outreach, community events, local relationships, referrals, and consistent follow-up.

This is not a desk job. It is an independent-contractor opportunity for people who are prepared to work in the community and produce measurable results.

What You’ll Do

  • Talk with New Mexico households about Community Solar

  • Conduct neighborhood outreach and door-to-door canvassing

  • Participate in community events, tabling, and local partnerships

  • Help customers understand the program

  • Guide qualified customers through the enrollment process

  • Follow up on missing documents and enrollment requirements

  • Represent WattsUp New Mexico and the state program professionally and ethically

This closely follows the duties in your current job listing.

Performance-Based Compensation

This is an independent-contractor, commission-only opportunity.

Enrollment Specialists earn commissions for completed, qualified enrollments. Weekly advances against earned commissions may be available.

Income Example

A specialist who completes approximately 10 qualified enrollments per week may earn approximately $120,000 in annual gross commissions, before business expenses and taxes.

This is an income example, not a guarantee. Actual earnings depend on individual performance, qualified enrollment completion, customer eligibility, program availability, and the applicable commission agreement.

Growth Opportunity

Top performers may earn opportunities to help build and lead teams.

The commission structure, weekly advance language, flexible schedule, and income example are all supported by your existing job sheet.

You May Be a Strong Fit If You:

  • Are comfortable introducing yourself and starting conversations

  • Can work independently without constant supervision

  • Follow through after the first conversation

  • Are dependable, coachable, and willing to improve

  • Care about your reputation in the community

  • Can explain information clearly and honestly

  • Want your income connected to your performance

  • Are interested in growing into leadership

Helpful Experience

Experience in sales, canvassing, customer service, community outreach, events, nonprofit work, benefits enrollment, organizing, or other public-facing work may help.

However, reliability, initiative, professionalism, and the ability to earn trust matter more than having a perfect résumé.

Flexible Does Not Mean Passive

Enrollment Specialists may work part-time or full-time.

You can determine the level of time you are prepared to commit, but your results will reflect the consistency and quality of your work.

Successful specialists create a regular outreach schedule, speak with enough households, complete follow-up, attend training, and stay engaged with the team.

That section will help filter out people who interpret “flexible schedule” as occasional effortless income.

Learn the Program and Build Your Skills

WattsUp New Mexico provides onboarding, program education, enrollment guidance, sales development, and continued support.

You will learn how to:

  • Explain Community Solar clearly

  • Identify households that may qualify

  • Conduct ethical and effective outreach

  • Guide customers through enrollment

  • Follow up on missing requirements

  • Improve your conversations and results

  • Build relationships with local organizations and communities

Your success will depend on your willingness to apply the training and consistently do the work.

You do not need to be a solar expert. You do need to be willing to learn, start conversations, follow up consistently, and represent WattsUp New Mexico professionally.

Compliance: All outreach and enrollment must comply with New Mexico Community Solar Program requirements and applicable consumer-protection standards, and should align with the recommendations outlined in the program’s Consumer Protection Best Practices document. This role may require obtaining any applicable city or town solicitor permits, completing onboarding requirements, and undergoing a background check.

Equal Opportunity: WattsUp NM is committed to providing equal opportunity in both our independent contractor opportunities and in how we serve the communities we work in, without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status.

We strongly encourage applications from veterans and individuals with deep ties to New Mexico communities, including Native American communities.
